You may be surprised at when the major decision making happens in a new build. The earlier you pre-order your lights, the more likely they will be able to be installed on time before you move in to your beautiful new home.
You have signed off on your plans and the foundations have been laid. Your build is finally underway, and after what seems like an eternity, suddenly things are happening quite quickly. The walls go up and the roof goes on. Windows are installed, Your electrician calls you to arrange a walkthrough so they can start laying cables. Your sparky asks you what lights are going over your kitchen island. What about your dining table? Anything beside the beds, or around the mirror in the ensuite? You thought you had more time, right?
The lighting is one of the very last things in your build to be completed so people can feel like they don’t have to decide on fittings until later in the build. It is actually a lot easier for everyone involved if you decide on what you are installing as early as possible.
Most of our pendant lighting have ‘standard’ ceiling roses but increasingly, we are seeing modern lights that have special requirements that need to be catered for at the pre-wire stage of building. For example, our Luca lineal suspension light requires the wiring to be positioned at one end of the fitting and the LED driver (transformer) needs to be hidden in the ceiling or a wall cavity. This is MUCH easier for the sparky to do earlier in the build than later. This is also the case with any wall lights. It is important to get the positioning correct at the prewire stage so the electrician can get the wires in exactly the right place.
