Q+A with Kasey, Mr Ralph's Social Media Queen!

April 14, 2022

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do at Mr Ralph?

I’m the Social Media Manager at Mr Ralph! Based in New Plymouth, I’ve been part of the team for coming up 2.5 years. I spend my days making sure that we have our best foot forward on our social platforms, sharing, posting, and engaging with our awesome customers online. We are currently delving into some new platforms, and its all pretty exciting!

Tell us what you love most about your job?

What’s not to love – honestly! I love being part of a company that’s innovative, there’s always new products to get excited about and I’m constantly inspired.  I get genuinely excited every time I get sent a new photo or some great feedback about our service. We spend so much time developing and selling products, consulting with customers but so much of the time we miss out on the final result. Social media has broken that barrier and it’s so great seeing where our products end up.  We have  a really supportive online community and there’s always something new to see – opportunities feel endless!

Special mention to Rach – having such a generous and supportive leader is incredible and I feel very lucky to be a part of the Mr Ralph team, and to be in a job that offers flexibility and a great work/life balance.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Probably battling the low res image world that is Meta! We are lucky enough to have access to a lot of UGC, (user generated content) however because the majority of it comes via our social platforms, even great images are compacted and become poor quality! I LOVE it when people offer to email things through instead. (Please send me pics! kasey@mrralph.co.nz)

Aside from that, my main challenge is learning to switch off – a combo of me loving what I do, and also having everything easily accessible on my phone, I never really switch out of work mode. I’m absolutely guilty of replying to messages at all hours of the day and night!

What’s your most valuable piece of advice?

In regards to lighting…Go big, and go low! Don’t be afraid to go for a large pendant, you will be surprised at what you can get away with, and how incredible it will look! Never hesitate to ask for help if you aren’t sure – remember we live and breathe this stuff, and are so happy to help! Something as simple as positioning your pendant even slightly lower, can make a HUGE difference to your space.

My other piece of advice is to go with what YOU love! If something brings you joy – go for it! That applies to lighting, décor, clothing, how you spend your time, everything. I think all ‘rules’ should be thrown out the window if something  makes you feel good, Just do it!!

All Ralphettes have a favourite light - what's yours and why?

Bubble Saucer - This has been a recent addition to my home and It makes me SO happy every time I see it! I love its presence in a room, it feels like an art piece! I also love how iconic it is – usually I wouldn’t go for something you would see everywhere, but when it’s a George Nelson design its totally acceptable….I love spotting it in film/tv (When you start noticing it, you’ll notice it EVERYWHERE) So – It’s iconic. It’s timeless, and it makes me feel BOUJEE

What do you do outside of Mr Ralph to relax?

I’m a major foodie, put a platter of good food and great wine in front of me and I’m a very happy gal! I have a 3.5 year old daughter who keeps me on my toes, we are lucky that living in New Plymouth means we have great beaches, walkway, cafes and bars so we are often out and about exploring the coast.

When it comes to lazy days at home, You’ll find me listening to music and getting a weird amount of satisfaction from pottering in the garden (Tell me you’re over 30, without telling me you’re over 30) having fresh flowers on the table is something I really love.

I’m also a sucker for trashy reality TV, and I’ve recently been spending time deep in the interior design part of the YouTube world, and love a good Arch Digest home tour!
